Arturo Contreras, Sr., 80 was a long time resident of Simi Valley, CA, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023. Born July 2, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas. He worked with his dad as an auto painter and bodyman right out of high school, then worked as a house painter with his brother-in-law, Eugene Porto, later he franchised a 7-11 store. He married Betty Contreras from San Antonio, Texas on October 14, 1961, a year after they started dating. They had their first child Debbie Martinez on August 19, 1962. Arturo Contreras, Jr., was born on January 1, 1964. He moved his family to California in 1965. They had their third child MaryAnn Martinez on November 1, 1966, fourth child Carolyn K. Mason on October 7, 1970. They have 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.


Arturo is preceded in death by his parents Esteban Contreras, Sr., and Maria Del Refugio Munoz Contreras, brother, Esteban Contreras, Jr., Carol Martinez, Sr.


Arturo is survived by his wife Betty Contreras of Simi Valley, son Arturo Contreras, Jr., and Salley Contreras, daughters Debbie Martinez, MaryAnn Martinez, and Ruben Martinez, Sr., Carolyn K. Mason & Scott Mason, sister Alice Contreras. He had several nieces and nephews.


A memorial service was held on June 7, 2023, at Rose Family Funeral Home & Cremation with a Celebration of Life at the Grand Vista Hotel, Grand Vista Ballroom, Simi Valley, CA.
