Barbara Jean Boatner (née Wood)

Barbara Jean Boatner, born Barbara Jean Wood, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Thousand Oaks at the age of 94, leaving behind a life defined by devotion to family, quiet strength, creativity, and a lasting legacy of care for others. She was born on January 2, 1932, to Harry Wood and Johanna Wood.

Barbara was the proud mother of seven children, and her family remained the center of her life throughout the years.

Barbara is survived by her children:

Gary Boatner (Gail); Brian Boatner (Kelly); Lori Martin; Janna Arnold (Kevin); Teresa Brown (Elgin); Lisa Martin (Darren); and Rebecca Ruffer (Chris).

Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren: Shannon Cox (Scott); Leona Boatner; Ryan Boatner; Deanne Martin; Shane Martin; Nicholas Arnold (Danielle);Tyler Arnold; Matthew Arnold; Adrianna Viall (Robert); Alexandria Brown; Travis Martin (Noel); Ashley Martin; Justin Sanfilippo (Sherry); Jeffrey Sanfilippo and Sable Ruffer; along with many beloved great-grandchildren.

Alongside her dedication to raising her children, Barbara maintained a strong work ethic and commitment to her career. She worked for 25 years at West Hills Medical Center in a neurology office, where she was highly respected for her loyalty, dedication, and dependability—qualities that mirrored how she cared for her family. She retired after many years of devoted service.

Barbara also possessed a remarkable artistic talent from a young age. During her junior high and high school years, she received numerous awards and recognition for her artwork, reflecting both her creativity and attention to detail. Her love of art remained an important part of her life and became a gift she passed on to future generations. Many of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren inherited her artistic abilities and creative spirit.

She took great joy in encouraging those talents in her family, always supporting and inspiring her children and grandchildren who pursued artistic interests. Whether through drawing, painting, crafting, or other creative endeavors, Barbara nurtured creativity with patience, pride, and encouragement, helping many discover confidence in their own abilities.

Barbara’s life was marked by her unwavering devotion to those she loved. While she was deeply valued in her professional life, her family always remained her greatest priority.

She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery near her parents. Barbara's memorial service will be held on Friday, July 17th, 2026 from 10am-12pm at the Pioneer church.

Barbara will be remembered for her strength, her dedication, her creativity, and the lasting impact she had on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
