On July 20, 2025, heaven gained a new Angel. Brian Anthony Barnes, 38, of Simi Valley, CA passed away suddenly at his home. Brian was born on November 28, 1986 to Robert Barnes and Lynne Keating-Barnes, in Somers Point, NJ and grew up in the town of Absecon, NJ. Brian graduated from the Atlantic County Institute of Technology High School and went on to study Computer Science at Atlantic County Community College and Stockton University. After years of learning the ropes in tech and science, Brian made the bold leap to move to California and work in the tech industry. While in CA, he met the love of his life, Rhiannon Matteson. Brian and Rhiannon later married and had one daughter, Aubrey, the second love of his life. He was an amazing husband and even more amazing as a “girl dad.” Brian and his little “muffin” did everything together – from building legos, to playing video games, baking cookies for the holidays and making silly dance moves around the house.
Brian is survived by his Wife Rhiannon, Daughter Aubrey, Mother Lynne, Father Robert, Sisters Lindsay and Shelby, Brother Brett, In-laws Rebecca and Jack Matteson. He is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
A Special Note from his Sister Lindsay:
Brian was the kind of older brother most could only dream of – someone whose presence lit up a room the moment he walked in. His humor was unmatched; his uncanny jokes and effortless wit made him one of the funniest people you'd ever meet. He had a heart that gave endlessly, always putting his loved ones first – especially his sweet baby daughter and devoted wife, whom he cherished beyond words. A proud Momma’s boy, the bond he shared with our Mom was one that defied time, destined to carry on from this life into the next. Brian was a science wizard, a true genius who could build and create the unimaginable. His brilliance in electronics and math was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite his immense talents, he never asked for much – he simply gave, and gave generously. His childlike wonder and magnetic personality made him unforgettable, elevating him to a kind of magic that few will ever reach. Brian wasn’t just smart – he was a teacher, in both science and life. He instilled in me courage, authenticity and a fearless embrace of individuality, and for that, I will be forever grateful. He always marched to the beat of his own drum, and that rhythm will echo forever in the hearts of those who knew him. And those eyes – his crystal blues – had a way of seeing right into your soul, silently saying, “I hear you. I see you.”
Services are being handled by Rose Family Funeral Home, Simi Valley, CA.
