David Allen Dowd

David Allen Dowd, of Simi Valley, CA, died on Friday, August 26, 2016. He was 83. He was born on August 11, 1933, in Valparaiso, IN. He served in the Air Force for four years, was stationed in Guam and North Africa, and achieved the rank of Airman First Class. He attended Valley Junior College and was one of the first classes to graduate from San Fernando State College with a degree in Psychology and a teaching credential. In 1959, he married Judy Vandre at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and together they had 4 children: Michael, Theresa, John, and Juliana. They were married for 57 years. David worked as a teacher at Lincoln Elementary and Katherine Elementary, loved to teach with music, and dedicated himself to reaching even the most struggling student. He held a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and treasured every opportunity to share the Lord with others. A talented soul, David enjoyed painting and golf. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved sharing his corny jokes with friends and family. He will be greatly missed. David is survived by his wife, his children, his 8 grandchildren, and his brother, William. A viewing will be held at the Rose Family Funeral Home on September 1, 2016 from 5-9 PM. A celebration of life service will be held at the Church of the Living Christ in Simi Valley on September 2, 2016 from 10-11 AM. Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to Compassion International or Holt International.
