Dorothy Theresa Burnett

Dorothy Theresa "Dodie" Burnett, 96, of Winnetka, CA, passed away on April 25, 2016.

A Rosary & Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Eudes Catholic Church on May 3rd at 10:00am. She will be buried at Bakersfield National Cemetery. Rose Family Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Dodie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Hugh & Gertrude Overend on January 20, 1920. She attended Cathedral Chapel Elementary School, & upon graduation from Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, she attended Immaculate Heart College, earning her bachelor of science degree in microbiology. Dodie went on to complete nurses training at Queen of Angeles Hospital, where she began her career as a registered nurse. After marrying & raising her children, she went back to work as an R.N., & kept her license current until she was 88 years old. Dodie was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart Auxiliary, & was actively involved in numerous charitable & parish activities throughout her life. Dodie loved life & was always ready with a kind word, a compassionate heart, & a manner that made everyone feel welcome and special.

Dodie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James Burnett, children Jan Russell, Sandra VanOver, Joanna Lopez, and Don (Sarah) Burnett, as well as ten grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother & sister-in-law Ralph & Mary Overend, & son-in-law James VanOver.

Her gracious beauty will be truly missed.
