Edith Joan Hernandez

May 4, 1946 — November 6, 2021

Edith Cabrera Hernandez passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 in Simi Valley, California at the age of 75, surrounded by family after suffering health complications. Edith was born May 4,1946 to Josephine Melendez Gomez and Ernesto Rodriguez Cabrera, in Van Nuys, California and was one of 16 children. She was raised by Loy and William (Memo) Vasquez from a very young age. She is preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Ernesto, and three sisters, Lucy, Theresa, and Rebecca. She is survived by her two sons, Xavier and Kurt (Married to Emily), eight grandchildren; Raymond (Ray), Toni Marie, Eric (Xavier’s Children) Rebekah Baljet, Shaylene, Kirsten, Lauren and Joseph (Kurt’s children), and seven great grandchildren; Katherine, Gabriella (Ella), Julia, and Clara (Rebekah’s children) Marcelo and Mila (Ray’s children) and Kailani (Eric’s daughter), as well as numerous brothers and sisters (Sarah Paynter, Arlene Orozco, Pauline Reyes, Mary Gallegos, Ruben Ramirez, Rachel Bozer, Ronnie Gomez, Ruth Dileo, Roy Gomez, Rudy Gomez, Rosie Gollahon, Ernie Cabrera), nieces, nephews, and cousins. Edith had many passions, which included spending time with not only her own grandchildren, but also others. She was a loving nanny to many other children. She also loved to shop and be able to gift her loved ones with the newest toys and items during Christmas, birthdays, and Easter. Edith had an amazing memory, and never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. She loved Betty Boop, amassing a large collection of memorabilia over the years; playing hand held Poker and Solitaire, as well as completing word puzzles, dancing and listening to music. Some of her favorite artists were Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Al Greene, just to name a few; some would refer to this music as “oldies.” Edith enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, and watching Hallmark movies.Edith was proud of being a manicurist, even giving some of her granddaughters their first manicure. Edith was a hard worker and enjoyed being of service, whether it be helping out with her own family, or volunteering with different organizations such as at the hospital gift shop, or Ventura County Fair. She loved her sports; baseball and football were her favorites. Go San Francisco Giants! Sorry, Dodger Fans! Edith was a loving mom, nana, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, nina, cousin, and friend who will be greatly missed, but leaves behind many warm memories that we will cherish.
