87 year old George D. Brown Jr. passed away from kidney failure in hospice care on July 21st, 2025 in Simi Valley, California surrounded by loved ones and the sounds of his beloved big bands. Though his earthly journey has ended, George Jr. lives on through his family, music, photographs, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy as a music educator continues to inspire generations.
Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, in 1937, George's rhythm began early, guided by the legendary George Gershwin and Stan Kenton. George's passion for music led him to West Chester State University, where he pursued his teaching degree. In 1960, he moved to New Jersey, starting his career as a music teacher at Paulsboro High School. It was there that he met his future wife, Carole Anne West from Woodbury, a Home Economics teacher. They married in 1961 and welcomed their son, George D. Brown III, in 1969.
After retiring from teaching at Washington Township Schools in the '90s, George traded his music room for photography. His lens captured the beauty of plants, flowers, and animals, earning him accolades as an award-winning wildlife photographer in South Jersey. From Wenonah, NJ to the rolling hills of Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the sun-kissed landscapes of California, George's photographs told stories of wonder and awe.
George's Pennsylvania Dutch family was his greatest source of inspiration. His father, the late George D. Brown Sr., a renowned detective and police chief, set a strong beat. His mother, Etta E. Greim, an organist & textile assembler, was the melody that brought warmth & love to his life. George's late special needs brother, Dennis Lee is looking forward to spending time with his big brother up in heaven.
George Jr. is survived by his loving son George D. Brown III, his wife Janet, and their four children: Madison, Mckenna, Riley, and Hayden George D. Brown IV.
As we remember George Jr., we celebrate a life filled with music, adventure, and creativity. His spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to live life with purpose, love, passion, and joy.
George will be interned at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations to Senior Concerns in Thousand Oaks, California are encouraged.
