George Edward Brownley

April 29, 1936 — April 3, 2016

George Brownley, 79, of Simi Valley, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 3rd, surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23 (St. George’s day!) at the Stonebridge Community Church, 4832 Cochran Street, Simi Valley. The service will be followed by lunch and a celebration of George’s life at the Simi Elks Club, 1561 Kuehner Drive.

George was born on April 29th, 1936 in Woodhaven, New York to Vivian and Frank Brownley. After graduating high school, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany. As a serviceman he was a tank driver and drum major in the army band. Following his time in the service he returned to New York and landed a job at ABC-TV.

His life took an unexpected turn when his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers packed up and left New York for California. It didn’t take long for him to decide that if the Dodgers could leave, so could he. At the age of 23, he arranged for a transfer to ABC in Hollywood and followed his favorite team out west.

Working as a film editor during what he called the “Golden Age of TV,” he edited some of the most popular shows at the time, including Dynasty, Cheers, Hawaii 5-0 and My Three Sons. He eventually went on to work for Paramount Studios.

George is survived by his wife, Margaret, his son Darin Keith, daughter Robyn (Fennessy) and six grandchildren, Warren, Brian, Summer, Danny, Courtney and Bryanna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Albert, and son Kevin.

The family wishes to thank Buena Vista Hospice Care and the Rose Family Funeral Home for their help during a very difficult time. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

George enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, golfing, music and spending time with family and friends. A man of great faith, he will be remembered for his kind loving heart, gentle warm spirit and ability to make others laugh.
