George Cowing Hallock

September 17, 1924 — December 30, 2016

George Cowing Hallock passed away suddenly on December 30, 2016 in the Emergency Room of Los Robles Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old.

George was born September 17, 1924, in Rochester New York, to George and Lina Hallock. He grew up around Rochester and Silver Lake, New York.

In World War II George enlisted in the US Army and joined the elite Parachute units and earned a prestigious set of "Jump Wings." His service included surviving an Atlantic Ocean collision between a troop ship and an aircraft carrier that killed many soldiers.

Upon ending his time in the US Army, George returned to the States and began a long life filled with family and a very diverse set of work experiences. George worked his way across the United States and took on many jobs, as long as he could earn money and make something meaningful.

A partial list of some of his employment after the war includes; selling Bibles door to door, a machinist at Douglass Aircraft, gas station owner, sign maker and painter, and welder. This life work occurred in places like New York, Ohio, and all over Southern California. Traveling around Southern California, George could proudly point out such accomplishments as welding together massive sections of pipe that make up the California Aqueduct System.

In 1948, George married his first wife and had two sons: Mark and Ross. Sadly, Mark passed away at the age of 19 from walking pneumonia.

In 1958 George married Carol Albrecht and they began their family. They eventually settled down in Saugus, CA, where they owned a rubbish disposal company, "Canyon Disposal."

In 1971 George and his family made their home in Newbury Park, California, where he raised his kids and worked for 19 years at a Westlake Village Aerospace Company, Bunker Ramo (Later Eaton Corp).

George is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol, three sons: Ross Hallock (Lorna), Steve Hallock (Bertha), Dale Hallock (Lori), and one daughter: Jackie Rockland (Ed), 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Mark Hallock.

Private interment, with military honors, will be held at Valley Oaks Cemetery, Westlake Village, on January 10, 2017.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00am, at his long time church home, Christ The King Lutheran Church, 3947 W. Kimber Dr., Newbury Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church in memory of George Hallock.

We are deeply appreciative to Dad for all he has done for us. It is with great tears of sadness that we say goodbye to him. He has left a big hole in our hearts. He walked in faith and has gone home to be with the Lord. We look forward to our reunion.
