George Daniel Howard

George Daniel Howard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went to be with our Lord on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.

He was born on July 14, 1938 in Richmond, VA to Laura and James Howard. He was the youngest of six children; Ernest Howard, Bill Howard, Mary Gregory, and Peggy Teele, who precedes him in death along with his parents. He is survived by his sister, Violet Marie Fitzgerald. Also preceding him in death is his son Daniel Howard. He leaves many nieces and nephews.

George served in the air force in Libya. Upon coming to California he became a postal carrier, and later, a supervisor in the San Fernando Valley. He married Joyce. In addition to Daniel, they had two daughters; Debra (Gerry) Maldonado and Kelly (Claud) Hale. They always remained friends.

On April 20, 1996, he married Carol Craig Haasis and Erik Haasis also joined his family. He had seven loveable grandchildren; Christopher (Melissa), Jim, Jessica, Bekah, Andrew, Tabitha, and Noah. He had one adorable great-grandson Levi.

George enjoyed his friends and family. He also loved fishing, games, cards, camping, baseball, football, basketball, music, and dancing. He traveled in Europe, Caribbean Islands, many US States including Alaska and Hawaii.

He had a quadruple heart bypass in 2001 and a stroke in 2002. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. He bravely dealt with it all. I would like to think Eric Haasis and the nurses at Oakhurst Hospice for helping me take care of George at home, as he wished. He died peacefully on Easter Sunday Morning. We miss him terribly but believe that we will see him again.

Funeral services will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 4191 Cochran Street, Simi Valley, CA on Monday, April 20, 2015. Visitation will start at 10, funeral services will start at 11 followed by burial at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
