Jacoba A. Vegting

Jacoba Antoinette Vegting, affectionately known as Jackie, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, at the age of 87 in Woodland Hills, CA. Born on March 18, 1937, Jackie's journey began in Jakarta, Indonesia, and saw her moving to Amsterdam, Holland during the war at a very young age. In her teenage years, she met Rudi in Amsterdam and they fell in love. They were married on June 16, 1960 in Amsterdam. At the end of the war, they moved to the United States to Southern California to begin a new life with new opportunities. While living in Southern California they welcomed their two sons Randy & Richard.

Jackie's life was marked by her deep love for her family and friends. She was a beacon of independence and sociability, known for her daily walks, daily shopping adventures, daily bus trips to the malls where she delighted in finding great deals, and the joy she found in selling jewelry. Her conversations with her son Randy and her brother Matthew were a daily highlight. Her son Randy, alongside his wife Kellie and their children Conner, Riley, and Mason, provided loving care that enriched her later years.

Her career as a school librarian within the LAUSD allowed her to touch many lives, fostering a love for reading and learning in countless students. Jackie's passion for travel took her back to Amsterdam almost yearly, reconnecting with family and friends, and exploring other parts of Europe and Hawaii. Her love of gardening and music provided a life filled with the activities that brought her joy.

Her husband Rudi, the love of her life, passed away in 1984 and they have finally been reunited after 40 years. Jackie is survived by her sons Randy (wife Kellie) and Richard, her brother Matthew and sister-in-law Connie Ebien-Pesa, her 3 cherished grandsons along with cherished others who lovingly called her Oma.

A service to honor Jackie's life will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen Street, Chatsworth, CA, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 2 pm. Her life was a testament of cherishing every moment. Jackie's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and were touched by her kindness and vibrant spirit.
