James Charles HughesJames Charles Hughes, 70, passed away at his home on December 17, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Flushing, Queens, Jim was a man of sharp wit, immense professional integrity, and a deep love for his family. After graduating from St. John’s University, Jim moved out west to attend Loyola Law School. He built a distinguished 40+ year career in real estate law, serving as a partner at both Loeb & Loeb and Greenberg Glusker before founding his own law practice. He was highly respected for his expertise in real estate land use law, and both colleagues and friends will remember him for his pro bono legal work and the generous spirit with which he mentored the young people in his life. Those who knew Jim well knew of his love of the open road. He spent many happy hours driving and maintaining his collection of Porsches and Corvettes, among other classic cars. At home, he was rarely without a book in his hand or a German Shepherd at his feet. Out of all his many accomplishments, Jim’s favorite title was “Papa.” His granddaughter, Kennie, was his pride and joy, and the time they spent together was the highlight of his later years.Jim is survived by his wife, Cristina; children, Amanda and Brendan; granddaughter, Kennedy; and siblings Jack, Jeanne, Joe, Jerry, and Julie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Irene.Services will be held at St. Bernardine of Sienna Church on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
