Jean Maria Lans, affectionately known as Sjaan, passed away peacefully at her home in Simi Valley, California, on May 3, 2025, at the age of 92.
A funeral service will be held at Rose Family Funeral Home on Friday May 9, 2025, at 6pm, officiated by Deacon Melecio Zamora of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Visitation will take place at Rose Family Funeral Home on Friday May 9, 2025 from 5pm to 9pm.
Jean was born on September 22, 1932, in Jakarta, Indonesia, to Tilly and Adolf Holst. She was a survivor of a concentration camp in Indonesia during World War II, a testament to her resilience and strength. Following her time in Indonesia, she continued her journey to the Netherlands and eventually settled in California, where she built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.Jean had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking traditional Indonesian cuisine, and nurturing her garden. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband Barend Lans. Her children; Frank van Lingen, Lita Ernst and son-in-law Ron Ernst, Jeffrey van Lingen, Robby Lans, Jeanine Mallas and partner Robb Greenberg. Grandchildren; Victoria and husband Mike, Angie, Robert, Justyn and wife Mary, Travis, Kiana, Lilly. Great-grandchildren; Nathan, Brenden, Logan, Elijah.
Jean’s life was a legacy of perseverance, love, and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
