Joan Carton Conover

April 15, 1938 — June 11, 2016

Joan Carton Conover, 78, of Simi Valley, California peacefully went home to our Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 11th, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 15th, 1938, the only child of Helen (Carton) and F. York Allen. She was a direct descendant of Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony and proudly belonged to the Mayflower Society. Her great-great grandfather Thomas Allen founded the Missouri-Pacific Railroad.

Incredibly intelligent and having advanced several school grades, Joan graduated magna cum laude at the tender age of fifteen from Anderson High School, an elite finishing school for young ladies in Reinbeck, New York. She went on to attend Colorado College in Colorado Springs, but never completed her studies. God had a more important plan for her and she answered His calling: that of being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She married Dale F. Conover of Colorado Springs on March 30th, 1959, remaining by his side as his loving wife for fifty-seven years. Shortly after their marriage, the young couple moved to Southern California and started their family. From school to sports to scouting, Joan was involved in every facet of her children’s lives. Her crowning glory was the arrival of her beloved grandchildren who fondly refer to her as their “Gammy”. As with her children, she lovingly involved herself in every aspect of their tender young lives.

Joan was a great humanitarian. From the time that she was a small child, she loved all animals and was deeply committed to rescue, as evident from the many dogs, cats, and other creatures which she rescued and cared for. She supported many charities and her generosity knew no bounds.

Joan shared with her husband a passion for classic Chevrolets and was an active and valued member of the Southern California Classic Chevy Club, having served as vice-president and treasurer for a number of years.

She was a proud American who loved her Country. Moreover, she loved and trusted in God with all of her heart, and is now safe in His loving arms.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her son Holden Allen Conover and his children, daughter Patricia and son Michael Anthony; her son Dale F. Conover, Jr. and his wife Rica-Rose; her son Everett York Conover; her daughter Fay Conover Martin and her husband Rob; and her son Michael Raymond Conover. She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Fay’s daughter Shannon Amanda and son Ryan Paul. Among those who also loved her and who feel the weight of her passing are Amy Rosenberg and Karen Lore.

A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, 18 June 2016 at 1:00 o'clock at the Rose Family Mortuary, 4444 Cochran Street in Simi Valley. There will be a reception at The Conover Family Residence immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society (bestfriends.org) or The Salvation Army.

Beloved Joan left an indelible mark upon her husband, children, and grandchildren and so many others in her life. Her absence is profound, but she will forever live on in their hearts until they are together again in God’s Eternal Kingdom as He promises.
