John H. Monaghan Jr. passed away on October 8th in Chatsworth, California at the age of 95. He was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on August 6, 1931 to Florence Page and John H. Monaghan Sr. He was preceded by death by his older sister Doris and younger brother Richard and survived by his younger brother Kevin. He grew up in Naugatuck, Connecticut. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and later attended the University of Connecticut on the GI Bill. He moved to California in 1957 where he began his career at Rocketdyne working at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. It was at a golf tournament at Rocketdyne that he met his future wife, Jeanne Lautier when she pulled his name out of a hat for a raffle. They married and he opened his hearts to her three children, Christiane, Michael and Valerie Butler and raised them as his own. Two years later they had Jacque Monaghan Barberie. He was a beloved Father-in-Law to Robert Barberie and a golf teaching, waffle making Grandfather to Bradley, Owen and Blake Barberie. He will be remembered by his family for being a loyal, devoted, hard working man that lived with integrity and honor.

After serving as Director of Testing for Rocketdyne’s Space Shuttle program., he retired after 35 years in 1992 and enjoyed many good years golfing, spending time in Palm Desert with family friends and traveling.
