John Chandler Pitts

John Chandler Pitts, 94, of Camarillo, California and Athens, Georgia, passed away on May 27, 2015 in Athens, Georgia. A private funeral service and burial will be held at Oakwood Memorial Park on June 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gary M. Keene, Senior Pastor of the Camarillo United Methodist Church, officiating.

John was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William Samuel Pitts and Nellie Hannum Pitts on September 6, 1920. He went to Collingswood High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Force, 1st Radio Squadron, during World War II. John worked for RCA in Camden, New Jersey, and Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, California for his entire career, retiring in 1984.

John is survived by his daughters, Patricia Givant and Shirley Whitmire; son-in-law, Robert Whitmire; grandchildren, Stacey Whitmire, Paul Givant and Jennifer Givant; and nieces Linda Cummings and Susan Cummings. He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Neubauer Pitts; brother, Edward David Pitts; and stepbrother, William Lewis Pitts. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Residence and Gentiva Hospice in Athens, Georgia.
