John Franklin Wright, known affectionately as “John Red” passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025 in Oxnard Ca. He was 79 years old.

Born in Los Angeles, most of his roots were planted there and had remained close to his heart throughout his life. He served in the US Army and went to Vietnam in 1966. Following his discharge he was educated to become a printer, a trade that reflected his steady work ethic and pride in his career. John worked for a company named Anderson Lithograph and was employed there for 25 years.

He had a great love for music and the arts. Many of his weekends were spent playing bongos or congas by the beach in drum circles and on stage with friends. He enjoyed drawing pictures of different places he visited. And he was always the man behind the camera, snapping photos of so many memories that were made. Those who knew him will remember his presence, his individuality, and the way he cared for others when he was well.

Above all John was a devoted son, brother, father, and a proud-and loving papa. His love was made known when he moved to be closer to his family. He cherished time spent, his role of papa gave him so much joy and happiness.

He is survived by his 5 siblings, children; Erica, Nichole, and John. Grandchildren, Jordyn, Zoe, Jackson, Clementine, and great granddaughter Avril. They will all carry forward his memory and legacy.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Details for a service will come soon.
