Joseph Erik Bruns, of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep onSeptember 12, 2026, at the age of 50.

He was known by his family and friends as Erik Erik was born on January 31, 1976, and was raised in Thousand Oaks, California, where he attended Thousand Oaks High School and later Moorpark College. Erik spent many years working in constructionalong side his father, learning the trade. He later worked as a union member insulating machinery for commercial businesses in Reno, Nevada. He also operated a pool-service route in Ventura County, building relationships with customers and becoming afamiliar and friendly presence in the community.

Erik faced many challenges in his life, including cancer, which he overcame with strength and determination. Erik continued to look ahead towards a better future. In recent years, he began a new chapter with a job at Boeing and made his home in Long Beach, a place where he quickly became part of the community. Those who knew Erik will remember his outgoing personality and his genuine love of people. He had a way of making connections wherever he went and was warmly regarded.

He loved playing golf with his stepsister, Jolie, his stepmother, Tammy, and friends; always enjoying the good times and laughs they shared. He and Tammy and Jolie also shared plenty of fun together dancing with the Wii and playing games like Mario Brothers. These simple moments meant a lot to Erik. In the fall, Erik was looking forward to visiting his Auntie Jeannette at his grandparents’ farm in Missouri.

Some of his most meaningful moments were the simple ones—especially Sundays spent with his dad, helping with chores and projects around the house and enjoying time together. He also enjoyed attending Mass with his father, making those Sundays another special opportunity for them to spend time together.

In Long Beach, Erik continued to give his time to others through his volunteer work at a local church. He helped prepare and distribute food to the homeless and assisted with building maintenance. His willingness to lend a hand made him a valued member of the church community and was held in high regard by its ministers and manager.

Erik was preceded in death by his mother, Madeline Power, and his stepmother, Tammy Miracle Bruns.

He is survived by his father, Joseph Bruns; his stepsister, Jolie Bruns; his uncles, Johnny Bill Bruns, Jerry Bruns, James Bruns, Jeffrey Bruns, and Kelly Power; and his aunts, Jeannette (Bruns) Herrera, Diane “DeeDee” Bruns, and Marguerete Power.

Erik will be remembered for his generous spirit, his resilience in the face of adversity, and his genuine affection for the people around him. His warmth and humor left an impression on many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
