Lupe Herrera

August 27, 1954 — January 17, 2025

Lupe “Ginger” Herrera was born in Oxnard, CA, on August 27, 1954, and passed away in Thousand Oaks on Friday, January 17, 2025. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Catalina Herrera, and brothers, Henry and Richard Herrera. She is survived by her son, Michael Herrera of Chicago, IL; her brothers, Joe Herrera of Wylie TX, and Charles Herrera of Oxnard, CA; and several nieces and nephews in Oxnard, CA, Texas, and Missouri.

In 2008, Ginger became a resident of Momentum, a home in Thousand Oaks, CA, for people with special needs and physical disabilities. She loved her home, where she received lots of compassionate care from the incredibly patient, wonderful staff there. Through the Momentum programs, she was able to participate in various activities and outings. One of her favorite pastimes was being in her room, listening to music from the 50’s and early 60’s (especially doo-wop), as well as her favorite crooner, Dean Martin, who reminded her of her beloved “Daddy”.

Ginger dearly loved her son, Michael, with whom she kept in touch through the years, moments she deeply treasured. She also enjoyed staying in touch with her oldest brother, Joe, whom she affectionately called, “Jo- Jo”. She was delighted to live close by her 13 first cousins and their families, the Lemos clan, which enabled her to enjoy many special events through the years.

For a few years, Ginger attended Calvary Community Church in Westlake, and made many wonderful friends there. A year ago, she started attending Grace Bible Church of Moorpark. She especially loved the fact that some of her first cousins and their families attend church there. Ginger’s memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church, 12039 Hertz St., Moorpark, CA, on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Errol Hale.
