Marjorie Avis Ott

February 10, 1923 — September 21, 2016

Marjorie “Marge” A. Ott died peacefully September 21, 2016 in Thousand Oaks, CA at the ripe age of 93. She is survived by her daughter LizabethAnn Grant and son-in-law Sam Grant of Simi Valley, CA.

Marge was born February 10, 1923 in Abbotsford, WI to Effie and Louis Arneson. She had 3 siblings, Bonnie, Robert and Shirley. Most of her childhood was spent in Wisconsin, her young adult life in Minnesota and later years in California.

In her 93 years Marge experienced and achieved quite a lot. Here are some of her life events and accomplishments…

After Marge graduated high school she met and eventually married William “Bill” Ott on November 26, 1947. They were just shy of celebrating 45 years of marriage before Bill’s death in 1992. As Bill served in the military they lived in several states and Marge managed the household. After the military, Marge and Bill bought and sold several properties and businesses over the years, they even owned and operated a small motel in the Pasadena area during the 1950’s. In 1965, Bill and Marge decided to settle down and start a family. That’s when they adopted LizabethAnn. Being a fantastic mother is Marge’s lasting legacy.

Marge loved to share, and we enjoyed listening to, stories of her life experiences over the decades. Marge was an avid reader and enjoyed doing the daily crossword puzzles in the local papers. She especially enjoyed playing cards & board games, doing jigsaw puzzles and taking trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV, where her and Bill decided to move for a brief period in the early ‘90s. After Bill passed away, Marge lived with her daughter in Simi Valley for many years enjoying her local friends and family.

One of the amazing things about Marge was her ability to make friends wherever she went and many, if not most, of those friendships lasted throughout her lifetime. Over the years family and friends have always referred to Marge as being “so much fun to be around”, having a free, fun spirit. She will be deeply missed.
