From swing dancing in Egypt, to marching with Martin Luther King Jr., to standing only a couple feet away from Kennedy’s casket, Mary Lovett lived a bountiful, far from simple life, richly embedded with history, experience, tragedy, and undeniable love. It would be more than satisfactory to put down that old history book, pull up a chair, and for hours, listen to her endless stories, pure history told through worn, yet certainly bright eyes. With every step she took through this realm, she brought such grace, charm, and subtle, yet unexpected humor, that you couldn’t help but smile whenever you were in her presence. She proved not only to be an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother, but also a wonderful human being.
At the age of 89, on January 28, 2016, Mary peacefully passed away in the comfort of her own bed, in Simi Valley, California. Marianne, her daughter-in-law, and Ivy, her granddaughter, were by her side. They will continue to live on her legacy, the epic tale of a five foot Maltese woman’s journey through history.
Ciao Grandma!
