Michael Earle Britton, formerly of Farmington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 15, 2025. Just shy of his 80th birthday.Born to Henry Berry Britton, Jr. and Margaret Goldsmith Britton, Michael grew up in Farmington alongside his siblings, the late Henry Berry Britton III (Terry) and his surviving sister, Marney Crecco. He attended Shattuck-St. Mary’s High School in Faribault, Minnesota from 1961 – 1964 and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1968. Shortly after graduation he married and moved to Weston, Massachusetts where he lived until 1996.
As an exceptional athlete, Michael was an active member of the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where he spent nearly 20 years as a professional level tennis player, representing the New England Tennis Stars (NETS) for several years in the 1970's and 80's, while also competing on the amateur circuit in New England. Throughout his career, he participated in and won several USTA sanctioned tournaments in both doubles and singles in Eastern New England and was ranked #1 in the father/son doubles alongside his son Tim, truly a significant moment of pride in his life. After retiring from tennis, he turned his energy to golf, perfecting his game on the courses of PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Later, he moved to the Palm Springs area, to be closer to his children and grandchildren, while never losing his deep affection for New England. He especially cherished time spent at his family homestead in Kent, Connecticut, and on Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vermont.
Michael built a distinguished career in the technology industry, beginning at IBM, where he was part of a pioneering generation in computing. He later joined Wang Laboratories and Martek Data as a leading salesman, contributing his expertise during a transformative era in the field. After a successful career, he retired to Bermuda Dunes, California, where he enjoyed the desert lifestyle, sunshine, and more time for the pursuits he loved.
He is survived by his two children, Tim Britton and his spouse Pamela, and Christy (Britton) Kreisa and her husband Charles, along with his four beloved grandchildren: Earl, Finley, Isabella, and Mya.
Michael will be remembered for his sharp intellect, baby blue eyes, and the warmth he extended to lifelong family and friends alike. His love for sport, New England, and most of all his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in August 2026 in Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cardiovascular Research Foundation of Southern California at www.cvrf.net under Dr. Karlsberg.
