Michael Lee Mumford passed away on September 19, 2026, in Simi Valley, California, at the age of 79.

Mike was born on March 18, 1947, in La Porte, Indiana. As a young man, he moved with his family to Canoga Park, California, where he graduated from Canoga Park High School. He later settled in Simi Valley, California, which became his home and the community where he raised his family.

A skilled craftsman and a man who enjoyed working with his hands, Mike spent approximately 40 years working as a carpenter and was also a talented mechanic. Even in retirement, he was rarely one to sit still. He could often be found working on something around the house, tinkering on a project in the garage, or simply enjoying a ride around town on his motorcycle.

Above all, Mike loved his family. He took great pride in his sons, Brian and Scott, and in the lives and families they built. His grandchildren held an especially important place in his heart, and some of his greatest joy came simply from having them around and enjoying their company. He loved teasing and joking around with them, and there was always room for a little fun when Grandpa was around.

Mike loved being part of his grandchildren’s lives, whether it was bringing Blake to work with him on his mechanic jobs, cheering for Mark at the high school lacrosse games, rooting Carson on at his motocross races, or watching Talyn at her dance recitals. He also treasured the time they spent fishing in Mammoth and four-wheeling together on his quad and, later, in his Suzuki Samurai.

Mike loved being outdoors. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and family vacations that took them to the mountains, the desert, and the beach. These trips provided countless opportunities to spend time together and created memories his family will always treasure.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Lee Mumford and Dona Mae Mumford (Martinsen), and his brother, Richard Allen Mumford.

He is survived by his sons, Brian and Scott, and their wives, Kellie and Jennifer, all of Simi Valley, California. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Blake (Danielle), Mark (Allison), Carson (Payton), and Talyn, and a loving great-grandfather to Waylon and Martin. He is also survived by many dear friends that will miss him.

Mike will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his ability to build and fix just about anything, his love of the outdoors, and most of all, the tremendous love he had for his family. The time spent together and the many memories made at home, in the garage, around a campsite, on fishing trips, and during family vacations will remain with his family for generations to come.

Mike will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
