Nellie Rebecca (“Becky”) Valentine of Thousand Oaks, CA passed peacefully from this life on January 5, 2017, at the age of 102.
Becky was born on February 7, 1914 in Nevada, Missouri of John M. Rutherford and Bertha J. Ainsworth. She married Bruce A. Valentine on May 9, 1941 in Phoenix, Arizona. They moved to Washington, DC for several years while her husband was in the WWII European Theater.
After the war, they spent 10 years in Rochester, New York, and then Long Island, New York. During their time in New York, the Valentines enjoyed traveling through Europe and golfing up and down the eastern seaboard.
After Bruce Valentine passed in 1986, Becky moved back to settle in Thousand Oaks, California. She continued to play golf and travel well into her nineties. As a lasting legacy that will benefit students for generations to come, Becky established The Valentine Foundation to provide scholarships for deserving students at Redlands University, in memory of her husband Bruce who graduated from that institution in 1941.
Funeral services will be held between 5-9 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley, CA.
Becky will be buried next to her husband Bruce on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11AM at Redlands Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands, CA.
