KOENIG, Richard J. March 31, 1924 – September 18, 2016
Following several health-related challenges, Richard “Dick” Koenig passed away peacefully last week. He was preceded in death by Theresa, his wife of 65 years, and is survived by his six sons: Joe (Nancy), Dan (Judy), Tom (Kathleen), Bob (Martha), Bill (Debbie) & Steven; 17 grandchildren; and, 18 great-grandchildren.
Dick served in the Navy during WW II then joined the Los Angeles Fire Department where he served for 30 years. He was a very active member of St. Elisabeth's Catholic Church in Van Nuys and St Julie’s when they moved to Newbury Park in 1992. After Theresa passed away in 2011, Dick moved to the Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center in Sun Valley so he could continue his life-long practice of attending daily mass.
Funeral mass will be held at St Julie's Catholic Church in Newbury Park at 10:30 AM on Friday September 30 followed by a reception in the parish hall. Internment will take place that afternoon at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund, 7470 N. Figueroa St, L.A., CA 90041.
