Dr. R. Bryan Freeman

Dr. R. Bryan Freeman, a devoted husband, father, and respected surgeon, passed away on July 23, 2026, in Simi Valley, California, at the age of 72.

Dr. R. Bryan Freeman was born on May 1, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee. He carried forward a family legacy ofcaring for others, graduating from medical school at the University of Mississippi before serving his country as asurgeon in the United States Army, a path that brought him back to Anniston, AL. There, he transitioned from military service into private practice, building a long, respected career as a general surgeon and caring for his community with skill and dedication.

Later in life, he moved to California, where he met and married the love of his life, Jennifer Ann Freeman. Their life together became the great joy of his later years.

Dr. R. Bryan Freeman is survived by his wife, Jennifer Ann Freeman; his children, Sarah Freeman Eaton (Kurt), Brewer Locke Freeman, Hellon Freeman McWilliams (Kelsey), Noah Parker Freeman, Ryleigh Freeman Lawson (Tyler), and Kaitlyn Chartrand; and his eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Carroll and Hellon Freeman, his son Matt, and his daughter Emily. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched throughout his years of practicing medicine.

He was, in every sense, larger than life. He entered a room with a presence that could not be missed — funny, serious, sharply intelligent, and never short on strong opinions. He was a caring, thoughtful surgeon who brought the full weight of his life experience to every patient he treated, always seeking to improve the lives of others and to cure whenever he could. As his daughter Sarah put it, "we could literally write a book" about his life.

He held a strong and steadfast faith in the Lord, and his family finds comfort in knowing he now rests in the presence of angels. His legacy lives on in the countless patients he cared for and the family he loved so deeply.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the UCLA Colorectal Cancer Center or Faith Christian School.
