Stephen Medler

Newbury Park Stephen James Medler On July 11, 2012, surrounded by his family, Steve passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father. He was 54 years old. Steve was born to Dr. and Mrs. David Medler. He was the youngest of 7 children and attended schools in the San Fernando Valley. Steve completed his undergraduate degree in Aquatic Biology at UC Santa Barbara and earned his Master of Science in Biology at Calif State Long Beach. He met his wife Janis in Tahoe City in 1983 and they were married April 1989. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Anna and Emily. For the last 14 years, Steve was employed by FGL Laboratories, in Santa Paula, as an Environmental Chemist. Steve loved his family, laughed often through his quick wit and numerous puns, and lived life to the fullest. All through his life, Steve maintained a passion for the ocean, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, Kaui, golfing, camping, and volleyball and always looked at life through his own lens. His greatest attribute was the love he had for his daughters and watching them grow throughout the years. He was instrumental in teaching them the values of life through church, sports, and school. He was known for his generosity with his time, encouraging and coaching both girls through soccer, volleyball, softball and other activities. Steve is survived by his wife, Janis; daughters, Anna and Emily; dogs, Sadie and Cooper; cats, Pumpkin and Penny; two sisters; four brothers; numerous in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. David Medler, and mother, Barbara Medler. A memorial service in celebration of Steve's Life will be held Saturday, July 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Presbyterian Church, Newbury Park. Casual or Hawaiian attire. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Steve's memory to Monte Vista Presbyterian Deacons - Care Ministries.
