Susan Allmendinger Owens passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on March 29, 1945, in Midvale, Utah, Sue was the daughter of hardworking parents who instilled in her a love of family, learning, and service. As a teenager and young adult, she worked at Arctic Circle, where her warm smile and quick wit made her a favorite among coworkers and customers. She went on to study dance and sociology in college before beginning an adventurous career as a flight attendant. Sue served passengers in the skies for nearly two decades, cherishing the opportunity to see the world and meet people from all walks of life.
During these years, Sue married the love of her life, Merle D. Owens. Together they raised their children, Michael (Hallie), Amber, Alison, and Emily. Later, she worked for many years in the Simi Valley Unified School District, most memorably as a career specialist at the Simi Valley Adult School, where she encouraged countless students to pursue new opportunities. As a couple and family, they enjoyed traveling together.
Sue particularly adored her 10 grandchildren and played an especially central role in the lives of Haydn and Alie, whom she and Merle lovingly raised. She also had many long-standing friendships with her neighbors and fellow churchgoers. A woman of curiosity and dedication, she enjoyed family history work (especially record indexing) and exploring the world through live webcams from distant countries.
Sue’s life was defined by love, resilience, and an abiding commitment to her family and faith. She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, her sister Karen, and her daughter Alison. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
