T Backhaus, also known as T Gallinovich and T DeCamp, was born on September 13, 1947, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and later made her home in Oxnard, California.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kelly McWaters.

T is survived by her son, Dino Galli; daughter-in-law Lisa Galli; grandchildren Alexis and Aaron Galli; and grandchildren BJ and Sadie McWaters, who carry forward the love and spirit of their mother, Kelly McWaters.

An accomplished swimmer in high school, T carried that same drive and determination throughout her life. She was a talented baker who owned and ran her own cake business, known for creating truly exceptional cakes. She was also an artist, creating many oil paintings on canvas, most often depicting oceanic and beach scenes, including lighthouses and rolling waves, inspired by the coastline she loved.

Passionate Greek influences were evident in her cooking, especially in dishes like Greek spaghetti, a family favorite. That tradition lives on through her granddaughter Alexis, who shares her passion for baking and proudly carries on the recipe—making a great Greek spaghetti of her own.

Some of the happiest times in her life were spent driving her 1968 Corvette and being an active member of the Ventura County Corvette Club, a passion that perfectly matched her independent spirit and love of the open road.

She loved people and was happiest surrounded by friends, often playing card games like pinochle, board games, or working on puzzles. Many remember her spending time in the clubhouse on Hollywood Beach, where she was a familiar and friendly presence.

Later in life, she enjoyed meaningful time with friends at The Savant of Tarzana and Oxnard Manor. She embraced her role as “Yaya” (grandma) to the best of her abilities, despite some challenges, bringing love, warmth, and guidance to her grandchildren. T had a deep love for animals and shared her life with many birds, dogs, cats, and more over the years.

She was a tough, stubborn, old-fashioned woman in the best sense—strong-willed, passionate, and unapologetically herself. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
