Tom,” was born April 13, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA. Tom’s parents were John and Marguerite Mackel. He was the youngest of their four sons. His brothers were John Jr., William (Bill), and Lawrence (Larry). Tom was raised in Los Angeles and attended Loyola High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a deep appreciation for faith, education, and service. He later earned his business degree from the University of Southern California, remaining a proud supporter of USC athletics throughout his life.

At 24, Tom married Martha “Marty” Davidson Mackel. They began their married life in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles and went on to build a full and loving home. Tom and Marty raised four sons: Stephen, Theodore, Thomas, and Peter. As their family grew, they lived in Laurel Canyon and later settled in Woodland Hills. Tom was a dedicated father. He coached and encouraged the many activities they participated in over the years, and he was always proud of their hard work and accomplishments.

Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve in the early 1960s. He went on to build a remarkable career in real estate development and construction. As president of the Mackel Company, Tom contributed to the growth and future of Simi Valley through long-term investment and thoughtful development. Tom was instrumental in the process of bringing the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to Simi Valley. He oversaw the development of numerous commercial properties in the area, including shopping centers and business sites that helped bring opportunity and vitality to the community.

Tom shared an exceptionally close bond with his brothers and extended family throughout his life. He had the privilege of working side-by-side with his brothers, Lawrence and William. Tom took great pride in the life and legacy they built together as brothers and as a family. Tom believed strongly in giving back and was known for using his time, resources, and influence to help others. He served for ten years on the board of the Moorpark College Foundation, supporting numerous Catholic organizations and locally based charities. Tom was always ready to support individuals and organizations who came to him with a need, offering generosity, encouragement, and practical help.

Tom’s personal interests included book collecting, skiing, sailing, mentoring others, and traveling with Marty. He also enjoyed fellowship and faith through St. Mel’s men’s book club. Above all, Tom cherished his family. He is survived by his four sons Stephen, Theodore, Thomas, and Peter; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Tom passed away on Sunday, January 4th. His love, leadership, and kindness left an impression on all who knew him. Tom was loved by many. Tom’s presence will be missed.

Tom’s funeral service will be on Friday, February 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Mel Catholic Church, 20870 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364. A reception will follow. Also, a rosary will also be held at St. Mel on Thursday, February 5th at 6:30 PM.
